Originally released in 2007 as part of the "Zoo Pack," this collaboration marked a seismic shift in how storytelling was applied to performance running heritage. Born from the creative mind of Atmos founder Hommyo Hidefumi, the design drew its unique DNA from the sight of an elephant bathing in the wild, translating that raw imagery into a sophisticated palette of black, white, and "Clear Jade." By introducing the high-contrast elephant print—a texture previously synonymous with the Air Jordan 3—to the sleek lines of the Air Max 1, Atmos created a cross-pollination of styles that felt both avant-garde and deeply rooted in Nike history. The piece reconstructs the landmark sneaker through 18 distinct, hand-painted layers of aerosol on 1/2-inch-thick wood. The piece’s background features a courtesan riding an elephant, inspired by Japanese woodblock paintings.
